20th Lopez Jaena Community Journalism Workshop call for fellows extended to Oct. 30

October 4, 2016聽— The Journalism Department of the College of Mass Communication, University of the Philippines has extended its call for fellows to the 20th聽Graciano Lopez Jaena Community Journalism Workshop. The new deadline for submission of applications is on聽Oct. 30, 2016.

The Workshop has also been moved to聽November 27 to December 2, 2016.聽Full fellowships, which聽cover travel, food and accommodation expenses,聽are available to practicing community journalists.

With the theme聽鈥淪cience Journalism: Contextualizing Science Reporting for Philippine Communities,鈥澛爐he workshop聽will enrich the fellows鈥 appreciation of the various areas of the science beat and will introduce them to new tools and techniques of science reporting, including data visualization.

Funded through an emerging interdisciplinary research program (EIDRP) on Communicating Science and Technology Research and Development in UP (CoST-UP) of the UP System, this year鈥檚 workshop aims to train 20 science journalists from the print, broadcast and online media, including four regional information officers of government science offices and one regional reporter of the Philippine Information Agency (PIA).

Applicants should have at least two years of media work experience and are still聽currently engaged in journalism.聽They must submit an application letter or letter of intent; brief biographical sketch with a 2×2 mug shot and a curriculum vitae (CV), two published/broadcast news reports; a story plan for an in-depth local science story, an endorsement from their editor, local press club president or a Lopez Jaena Community Journalism Workshop alumnus/alumna.
