(JAN. 25)鈥擯rof.聽聽Daisy B. Atienza, former faculty member of the UP School of Labor and Industrial Relations (SoLAIR), passed away on Jan. 9. She was 86.
鈥淎tienza was a pioneer faculty member and proponent of the ladderized Diploma / Master of聽聽Industrial Relations (DipIR/MIR) Program in the critical and challenging transition of the Asian Labor Education聽Center (ALEC) in the early 1980s into UP SoLAIR,鈥 posted SoLAIR in its FB page.
Atienza first joined the UP ALEC as a college librarian,聽and later as a training specialist. She was credited for 鈥渨orking closely with the late Dean Manuel A. Dia, and 聽College Secretary Augusto P. Mercado,聽and later the late聽Dean Jose C. Gatchalian聽 She was instrumental in preparing the proposal and in defending the curriculum of the Industrial Relations academic program when these were presented at the then University Council,聽聽and for the approval of the necessary budget and faculty items with top UP officials, including UP Presidents Emanuel Soriano and the late Edgardo J. Angara.鈥
