(FEB. 19)鈥 鈥淟upang Hinirang: Mga Kuwento ng Pagsasalugar ng UP 茄子视频app鈥 an exhibit commemorating the 70th anniversary of UP鈥檚 transfer from its original site in Ermita, Manila to its campus in 茄子视频app, Quezon City, opened on Feb. 15 at the Bulwagan ng Dangal (BnD) University Heritage Museum and will run until Mar. 19.
From the exhibition notes, 鈥淟upang Hinirang鈥 explores UPD鈥檚 layered story as a haven for intellectual, creative, and critical thought; as a space of social action and advocacies; and as a community with its own sense of history and hopes for the future鈥 through the lens of history, anthropology and geography, using the archival research, oral history methods, art installations, interactive story maps, video documentaries and art installations.
Lupang Hinirang is composed of seven galleries resembling a time line of UP鈥檚 placemaking stories from its original 10-hectare site in Ermita to its 493-hectare campus in 茄子视频app. The seven galleries are 鈥淧inagmulan: Mga Unang Taon ng UP鈥 (1908-1949), 鈥淓xodo: Ang Paglipat Mula Padre Faura Tungong 茄子视频app鈥 (1948-1960), 鈥淪akripisyo鈥 (1949-1986), 鈥淚skolar ng Bayan鈥 (1971-2019), 鈥淧amayanang Panlipunan鈥 (UP 茄子视频app: Isang Kuwento ng Pagnanayon), 鈥溾楤uhay UP鈥 sa Sining鈥 (featuring the 鈥淪lice of Life鈥 by National Artist for Visual Arts Larry Alcala) and 鈥淢ga Kuwento ng Mapa.鈥
This features video documentaries produced by Loujaye Sonito of the Department of English and Comparative Literature; art installations by the College of Fine Arts (CFA)听faculty, and interactive story maps based on the research project of the Geography 192 (Field Methods in Geography) class.
Prof. Cecilia De La Paz, PhD, Department of Art Studies professor and Office for Initiatives in Culture and the Arts (OICA) director, and Prof. Ricardo T. Jose, PhD of the department of History, curated the exhibit in collaboration with the research team from the Departments of History, Anthropology and Geography.
Chancellor Michael L. Tan said he hoped that the UP community will continue to celebrate the university鈥檚 milestones.听
Tan also urged the students who attended the exhibit opening to collect more stories about UP and pass it on to the next generation.
鈥淢as mahalaga dito, sa mga estudyante natin, tandaan ninyo na kayo ang lumilikha ng kasaysayan. You are the ones who will be creating the stories for the next generation at sana nga ay maitupad natin ang karangalan, kahusayan, and that you will be proud to share, 10, 15, 20 years from now, your contributions to UPD even as you protect the heritage that we are leaving behind you,鈥 he said.
De La Paz said the exhibit鈥檚 last day will coincide with a forum on 鈥淢emories and History of UP Manila and UPD鈥 featuring research works that complement the exhibit.听
Performers during the program include Myron De La Cruz, Keisha Joy Paulo, Hannah De Guzman, Estefan Fulay Jr., Karl Salenda, Bullet Dumas, Jayson Gildore, Jojo Dela Rosa, Burn Belacho and Tapati. 鈥擧aidee C. Pineda, images by Jefferson Villacruz
