Forty-eight UP ÇÑ×ÓÊÓÆµapp (UPD) faculty members and researchers were appointed as UP Social Scientists / UP Scholars across various ranks under the UP Social Sciences and Philosophy Productivity (SSPP) System.
The inaugural run of UP Social Scientist / UP Scholar award recognized two batches of appointees from UPD—13 for the Calendar Year (CY) 2023 – 2025 and 35 for CY 2024 – 2026.








The SSPP honors the exceptional research and academic achievements of faculty members and researchers in the social sciences and philosophy, and their unique contributions to social development and nation building. Recipients are conferred the distinction of either Social Scientist or UP Scholar.
For CY 2023 – 2025, recipients were one Social Scientist III, seven Social Scientist II, and five Social Scientist I.
Joefe B. Santarita, PhD from the Asian Center (AC) is the lone Social Scientist III recipient.
Named Social Scientist II were Erwin Gaspar A. Alampay, PhD from the National College of Public Administration and Governance (NCPAG), Ma. Crisanta N. Flores, PhD from the College of Arts Letters (CAL), Ramon G. Guillermo, PhD from the Center for International Studies (CIS), Jem R. Javier, PhD from the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy (CSSP), Maria Diosa D. Labiste, PhD from the College of Media and Communication (CMC), Noel Christian A. Moratilla, PhD (AC), and Benedict S. Olgado, PhD from the School of Library and Information Studies (SLIS).
Appointed Social Scientist I were Ariel C. Lopez, PhD (AC); Sheryl Lyn C. Monterola, PhD from the College of Education (CEd); Lizamarie C. Olegario, PhD (CEd); Edwehna Elinore S. Paderna, PhD (CEd); and Divine Love A. Salvador, PhD (CSSP).
For CY 2024 – 2026 honorees were three Social Scientist III, 17 Social Scientist II, and 15 Social Scientist I.

The SSPPS was instituted following its approval by the UP Board of Regents (BOR) at its 1376th meeting on 25 Nov. 2022, with approved revised guidelines during the 1397th meeting on 27 Feb. 2025. The UP Social Scientist / UP Scholar appointment carries annual monetary incentives of PHP150,000 for Social Scientist I, PHP200,000 for Social Scientist II, and PHP250,000 for Social Scientist III.
