The Philippines Promising Star Awards 2016 is organized by the Intellectual Property & Science (IP& Science) business of Thomson Reuters, and recognizes Filipino researchers based in the Philippines who have produced world-class research papers in their respective fields as indexed in the Web of Science Core Collection.聽 The award recipients are distinguished in nine broad fields: social science, computer science, clinical medicine, plant & animal science, neuroscience & behavior, economics & business, molecular biology & genetics, materials science and environment/ecology.

The six UP 茄子视频app researchers along with six others from UP Los Ba帽os, UP Manila, De La Salle University and University of Santo Tomas were chosen using 13,581 research papers from 2006 to 2015 in the Web of Science Core Collection.聽 Out of these, 1,261 papers were ranked within the Top 10 percent of its category worldwide by citation count, and 97 of the top papers have a Philippine reprint author named.聽 Forty-six Filipino authors were then identified by the IP &Science business and CHED across 17 broad subject areas.

Thomson Reuters, a worldwide leading source of news and information for professional markets, said, 鈥淭he number of recipients in each subject category is determined by the square root of the number of eligible winners in each category rounded down鈥he award recipients are determined by first considering the number of top papers the author has written.聽 In case of a tie, Category Normalized Citation Impact (CNCI) is used as a tiebreaker.鈥 CNCI is calculated by dividing the actual count of citing items by the expected citation rate for documents with the same document type, year of publication and subject area.

The Philippines Promising Star Awards was presented in conjunction with the CHED Research and Publication (REPUBLICA) 2016 Awarding Ceremony.
